Company Profile:

The Alameda County Water District (ACWD), located in the San Francisco Bay Area, supplies water to a population of 320,000 people in the cities of Fremont, Newark, and Union City in southern Alameda County, California. ACWD’s mission of providing a reliable supply of high quality water at a reasonable price is met through advanced surface water treatment techniques such as ozonation-biological filtration at a state-of-the-art 21-mgd water treatment plant, and the use of ultrafiltration membranes in the upgrade of an existing 10-mgd water treatment plant to be completed in early 2004. In the spring of 2003, ACWD will also have a 5-mgd brackish water desalination plant on-line that is believed to be the first of its type in municipal water service in Northern California. Finally, by 2005, an 8-mgd groundwater treatment plant using RO membranes is expected to be in operation for demineralization and hardness reduction.

Company Profile:

Water is vital to survival. At BPUB our two water treatment plants have the capacity to provide 40 million gallons of treated water per day, which is well above the city's current peak demand, and serve a population of 150,000. The area's phenomenal growth has challenged the Brownsville Public Utilities Board to not only provide the infrastructure to support this growth, but to also provide quality drinking water. BPUB's water treatment plants have been recognized by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), formerly known as the Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission for providing T.O.P. quality water, which exceeds state and federal standards by five times. BPUB provides water to over 40,000 taps throughout the city and continues to execute plans for the area's future water needs. The BPUB also maintains a state of the art wastewater system through its two wastewater plants. Both Brownsville PUB wastewater treatment plants treat a combined average of 11 million gallons per day. In total, they have a design capacity to treat 22.8 million gallons per day. The South Wastewater Treatment Plant and the Robindale Wastewater Treatment Plant give Brownsville reliable service and high quality effluent water. The plants will also be able to help alleviate the drought situation, through the water reclamation project that will produce an alternate water source for lawn irrigation and maintain resaca water levels. The Southmost Regional Water Authority was formed in 1981 for the purpose of developing alternative water supply strategies in Cameron County, Texas. After years of dormancy, SRWA was revived in September 2000 with the goal of decreasing dependency on the overallocated Rio Grande. In April 2004, following extensive study and testing, SRWA inaugurated a state-of-the-art reverse osmosis plant. The 7.5 MGD facility turns brackish groundwater previously considered unusable into high quality drinking water for Brownsville Public Utilities Board, Port of Brownsville, Valley Municipal Utility District No. 2 (Rancho Viejo), Los Fresnos, and Indian Lake. Since 1975, OCWD has operated Water Factory 21, a water purification plant that takes treated wastewater, purifies it to beyond drinking water standards, and then injects it into shallow aquifers near the coast to form a fresh water barrier, blocking seawater intrusion. OCWD is leading the way in purification of wastewater for reuse to provide a reliable, new, drought-proof source of water. The Groundwater Replenishment System, a proposed project sponsored by OCWD and the Orange County Sanitation District, will produce enough near distilled quality water for 200,000 families.

Ph: 561-746-5134
Fax: 561-747-5634
Email: davidb@jupiter.fl.us
Web: www.jupiter.fl.us

Company Profile:

In 1978, the Town of Jupiter purchased its water system from Tri-Southern Utilities. At the time, the system’s average daily flow was only 2.5 million gallons per day and served a population of approximately 15,000 people. Today, the utility is capable of producing nearly 30 million gallons a day of drinking water. It serves more than 80,000 people living in Jupiter, Juno Beach and unincorporated areas of Palm Beach and Martin Counties. Jupiter’s drinking water system blends three treatment methods: lime softening, ion exchange, and reverse osmosis. The conventional lime softening treatment and the ion exchange plants use fresh water from wells that access the 150 to 200 foot deep Surfi cial Aquifer. The softening process includes the use of lime and polymers to remove hardness, turbidity and iron. The ion exchange process uses resins to remove color. Our reverse osmosis (RO) desalination system takes brackish water from wells drilled into the 1500 to 2000 foot deep Floridan Aquifer and uses high pressure to force it through a membrane that removes the salt and other impurities. The result of the RO treatment process is extremely pure water, which is then blended with waters from the lime softening and the ion exchange plants to produce drinking water that surpasses all United States EPA drinking water standards.
