Membrane Application Research Engineer

Nalco Company currently has several openings for Membrane Application Research Engineers in our Research & Development Group located in Naperville, Illinois.

The successful candidate will have global responsibility to identify, develop, and deploy innovative membrane-based solutions for water treatment by:

• Collaborating with business units and equipment teams to identify opportunities for integrated offerings including membranes targeting specific utility and industrial process markets
• Formulating initial hypotheses for new offerings and working to establish preliminary technical feasibility
• Taking a lead role in identifying and evaluating opportunities to partner with companies or research groups outside Nalco for new technologies or capabilities
• Conducting scientific research to develop new intellectual property and provide Nalco with a sustainable competitive advantage
• Driving projects through Stage-Gate process for new technology commercialization, including on-site application development and customer support
• Partnering with Marketing and Offering Development Groups on innovation from conception to global deployment

A successful candidate must have: 

• In-depth technical understanding and practical experience in membrane and other equipment-based water treatment solutions
• Understanding of emerging technology trends related to industrial water treatment
• Proven track record of new program development and innovation
• M.S. or Ph.D. in Engineering or similar field of study
• Willingness to travel and work in a global team

The preferred candidate will have:

• At least 5 years experience in industrial research with a strong applied technology role

The successful candidate will have strong technical skills in membrane (MF, UF, NF, RO) and other water treatment solutions in municipal or industrial applications including pretreatment, desalination, process (clarification, recovery, concentration), wastewater treatment MBR, and/or related technologies including EDI, EDR and ceramic UF/MF membranes. 

Relevant experience could also include membrane manufacturing, system engineering, or integration of membrane offerings into turnkey solutions and services for membrane systems/operations.
